The second leg of the Parliament Budget Session began on Monday (March 10, 2025) with disruptions over the alleged ‘Hindi’ language imposition. Tensions soared in the Lok Sabha after DMK members staged protests over Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s remarks that the Tamil Nadu government was “dishonest” on the issue of implementing the PM Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) scheme.

Replying to a question on the PM SHRI scheme, he said the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government has changed its stand on implementing the Centrally-sponsored scheme which envisaged strengthening the schools managed by central, state or local bodies. Mr. Pradhan said: “They are dishonest and they are ruining the future of the students of Tamil Nadu. They are doing politics”.

The disruption led to a 30-minute adjournment in the Lower House before being adjourned again till 2 p.m.

The first part of Parliament’s Budget session this year drew to a close on February 13.

There are indications of an ‘EPIC’ showdown between the government and the opposition which is planning to raise issues such as the alleged manipulation of electoral rolls, the fresh bout of violence in Manipur, and India’s handling of the Trump administration.

The focus of the government will be on getting Parliament nod for the demands for grants, completion of the budgetary process, seeking approval for the Manipur budget and passage of the Waqf Amendment Bill.

Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to move a statutory resolution seeking Parliament approval for the proclamation of President’s Rule in Manipur.
