Day 1 of the Parliament Budget Session witnessed disruptions over the alleged ‘Hindi’ language imposition

Rajya Sabha began proceedings on Tuesday (March 11, 2025) with Opposition protests, as Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan refused to admit notices under Rule 267. Opposition parties moved 21 notices. Out of these, 18 were moved by TMC, Congress, BJD and AAP on the issue of duplicate voter ID. The House was briefly adjourned due to protests.
The second leg of the Parliament Budget Session began on Monday (March 10, 2025) with disruptions over the alleged ‘Hindi’ language imposition. Tensions soared in the Lok Sabha after DMK members staged protests over Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s remarks that the Tamil Nadu government was “dishonest” on the issue of implementing the PM Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) scheme.

Senior Congress leaders met to deliberate on the party’s strategy during the second part of the Budget session, resolving to take up in a big way the voter list manipulation issue and strongly oppose the National Education Policy 2020, sources said. The Opposition party will also oppose the Waqf (Amendment) Bill if it comes up for a discussion and passage, and will registers it concerns over delimitation exercise.

Value added manufacturing as a percentage of GDP has gone down: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi
Mr. Gogoi held notwithstanding the government’s assertion about ease of doing business, he held value added manufacturing as a percentage of GDP is down from 17.9% in 2010 to 12.9% at present.
The Congress MP further placed his concerns about ‘Make in India’ unable to allay prerogatives of manufacturing in the country.

Rajya Sabha: Congress MP Digvijaya Singh raises concerns over grants from the University Grants Commission (UGC)
The authority used to provide grants previously, which have now been changed to loans, Mr. Singh says.
“Higher Education Financing Authority has been formed now. So, the UGC will not provide grants anymore…This will lead to an increase in fees of both private and government colleges. The UGC should continue giving grants,” he adds.
